Types of Temporary Buildings Used by the Military
Thanks to their phenomenal versatility, thermal protection, and cost savings, Big Top’s fabric structures are ideal for a range of military applications. Since 1979, we’ve kept pace with the evolving needs of the U.S. Armed Forces, and it has been our great honor to assist with military operations all over the world by designing custom fabric shelters for various applications. Here are some examples of the types of Big Top temporary buildings that are used by the military:
Large-Area Maintenance Shelters (LAMS)
Military operations require large-area maintenance shelters where oversized vehicles and equipment can be serviced. Our fabric structures offer plenty of space for maintenance applications as they contain no internal guy wires or columns. Plus, our temporary buildings can be nearly any size, ranging up to 80 feet high, 174 feet wide, and almost any length.
Hangars & Sunshades
Big Top’s fabric hangars and sunshades can be anchored directly to the flight line to ensure mission readiness. And thanks to the exceptional thermal performance of the fabric cover, which is formulated to block 99.95% of UV-A and UV-B radiation, equipment electronics and paint jobs will be protected from the damaging effects of sun exposure. Our temporary military buildings are approved by the Army Corps of Engineers as being compliant with U.S. Air Force Sunshade Management (AFSM), Air Force Instruction (AFI), and International Building Code (IBC). They are also Berry Amendment compliant.
Vehicle Inspection Shelters & Guard Shacks
Our fabric shelters can span roadways and anchor to asphalt. And with internal partitions installed, inspections can be conducted out of sight of prying eyes. With the UV-reflective thermal cover helping to keep the interior of our military buildings at a pleasant temperature that is, on average, 15 degrees cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the temperature outside, personnel will be comfortable as they perform their duties throughout the day.
Chow & Mess Halls
Our fabric structures offer shelter for troops having a meal, attending a training session, or participating in any other activity requiring a large space. One of the numerous accessories that we can include with a fabric chow or mess hall is lightning protection, which will allow the building to be used as a muster station when inclement weather occurs.
Barracks
Big Top can equip a temporary military building with everything it needs to create a comfortable living space for troops. This includes partitions for sectioning off rooms, flooring, doors, insulation, ventilation, and HVAC units for climate control.
The Ideal Solutions for Agile Combat Employment (ACE)
Agile Combat Employment, the concept of maintaining many smaller bases rather than a few big ones, requires the use of regionally based cluster preposition (RBCP) kits. Big Top’s fabric structures also fit this bill. Our temporary military buildings can be deployed at rate of 2,500 square feet per day and anchored to nearly anything. Additionally, they do not require electric lighting thanks to the translucent fabric cover, and they can be moved around the base or disassembled and shipped to a new location to keep pace with changing military operations.
