How Local Governments Use Our Fabric Structures
Thanks to the versatility and superior protection from the elements that Big Top’s fabric structures provide, they are perfect buildings for the many operations conducted by local governments across the United States. Here are some ways that our shelters are used by city and state municipalities:
Salt & Sand Storage
When roads get icy in the winter season, large quantities of salt and sand need to be on hand for making the roads safe to drive on. However, salt and sand can’t be left exposed to the elements. Otherwise, moisture from rain and snow will cause salt to dissolve and sand to clump up, rendering them effectively useless. Our shelters protect these materials and, because of the clear-span design, there’s plenty of room to store all the salt and sand that is needed.
Equipment Storage
Vehicles, tools, and equipment are also at risk when left exposed. For instance, too much sun exposure can fade the paint of government vehicles and wear down equipment electronics. Big Top’s structures feature a thermally reflective fabric roof that repels up to 99.95% of UV-A and UV-B radiation, shielding equipment and staff from the harmful effects of the sun.
Waste Management
Our shelters ensure waste management and recycling processes can continue nonstop, even if it’s raining or snowing. They’re also well-ventilated, helping to reduce unpleasant odors, and naturally illuminated thanks to the translucent fabric roof, saving on energy costs.
EMS Shelters
Local cities across the country regularly host large events that draw crowds. To ensure everyone’s safety, emergency responders need to be on site. Our shelters can be anchored to nearly any foundation, including asphalt, and can, therefore, be erected virtually anywhere near a large event, ensuring prompt response in an emergency.
Homeless Shelters & Temporary Housing Facilities
Big Top fabric structures are used by local governments to house those experiencing homelessness. Protecting them from harsh weather environments, our structures serve as a place to seek comfort, food, and shelter. This allows them to overcome certain challenges while they get back on their feet and transition to permanent housing.
Fire Stations & Portable Command Centers
When fire departments, police forces, disaster relief organizations, and security agencies need a base of operations, our structures are the ideal solution. Not only can our buildings be erected nearly anywhere, but they also assemble quickly at a rate of 2,500 square feet per day. Plus, the UV-reflective fabric roof helps to maintain an interior temperature that is on average 15 degrees cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the temperature outside, ensuring that all personnel inside is comfortable without having to rely on artificial climate control.
