Berry Amendment-Compliant Hangars & Sunshades for Military Applications

Berry Amendment-Compliant Hangars & SunshadesAt Big Top Fabric Structures, it’s been our honor to serve the U.S. military for more than 40 years. Our hangars and sunshades comply with Berry Amendment requirements for military use and deliver a wealth of benefits, including superior protection for aircraft, versatile deployment capabilities, and the assurance of mission readiness.

What Is the Berry Amendment?

The Berry Amendment requires the Department of Defense to source products it needs for its operations from domestic companies. The amendment was originally passed by Congress in 1941 to protect our nation’s industrial base during times of war. Any companies associated with the Department of Defense that need large area maintenance facilities, hangars, or flight-line sunshades will need a Berry Amendment-compliant structure like those available from Big Top.

Our hangars and sunshades are also approved by the Army Corps of Engineers as compliant with U.S. Air Force Sunshade Management (AFSM), Air Force Instruction (AFI), and IBC.

Superior Protection for Aircraft

The fabric roofs in our hangars and sunshades are formulated to repel 99.95% of UV-A and UV-B radiation, keeping your staff safe from sun exposure and maximizing the lifespan of your aircraft’s paint jobs and electronics. It is also NFPA-701 flame retardant in accordance with the International Building Code.

A Comfortable Environment for Your Personnel

With their exceptional thermal performance, the fabric roofs in our structures help keep the interior at a comfortable temperature that is, on average, 15 degrees cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the temperature outside. This feature will ensure the comfort of your technicians as they perform maintenance duties.

Versatile Deployment Capabilities

Our hangars and sunshades can be deployed directly on the flight line because they can be anchored to the asphalt—they do not require a traditional concrete pad as a foundation. They can also be picked up and moved intact by a crane, or disassembled and packed for deployment at a different location should the needs of your operations change.

Ensuring Mission Readiness

Because they can be anchored directly on the flight line, our sunshades and hangars ensure mission readiness for aircraft. We can also equip our fabric structures with lightning protection to protect against inclement weather, as well as numerous other accessories to enhance your structure.

Other Benefits of Big Top’s Hangars & Sunshades

The fabric roofs of our flight line sun protection shelters are translucent and will allow natural light to fully illuminate the interior without relying on an artificial lighting system, which can save on costs. And on the subject of costs, our structures have a much lower price tag than traditional, permanently constructed aircraft hangars. They can also be erected at a rate of 2,500 square feet per day without the help of an outside contractor.
