Fabric Structures, Fabric Buildings, and Fabric Shelters Information

Big Top Manufacturing would like to share valuable information about Fabric Structures in general for your better understanding of Fabric Shelters. Fabric structures have also been called by several other terms such as tension fabric structures, tension fabric buildings, or tensile fabric structures, because fabric is tensioned to provide the stable structural support of the structures. Tensioning methods of Fabric Structures vary among the manufacturers. Some Fabric Structure manufacturers require that the fabric be an integral part of the shelter's integrity and is typically inserted to the track such as the rafter via a keder, the ending part of a fabric membrane panel to slide in the rafter. This method has its limitations. Should there be a severe failure of the fabric in a panel, the entire Fabric Structures are likely to be at risk. This type of Fabric Structure system is susceptible to leaking unless the proper sealing system is implemented. Big Top Fabric Shelter system, however, employs an efficient tensioning method, pulling the fabric over the steel frame by a truck or a forklift and tensioning the fabric securely with the threaded rods connected in the tensioning tube of the fabric. This unique system is much less susceptible to possible leaking in the structure.

To put it simply, frames, fabrics, and equipment are the main components of Fabric Structures or Fabric-covered buildings. First, tubular steel frames are employed to provide sturdy and stable structural strength to Fabric Structures. In other words, steel frames to Fabric Structures are like bones to human body. For Big Top's Fabric Shelter system, all the steel frames are electrochemically processed or galvanized to protect the frames from rusting or corrosion of the frames. The second component of Tensioned Fabric Structures is fabric to cover the galvanized steel frame. Big Top uses high quality PVC fabric. In addition, if you have fabric buildings, you can place an order for quality replacement covers for fabric buildings & fabric shelters. Third, you need some equipment or tools to properly install tension Fabric Structures or Fabric Buildings. Depending on the size of Fabric Structures, fabric lifting equipment (cranes, boom trucks, & scissor-lifts), power and hand tools are used for the installation of Fabric Structures.
