Malta Dry Docks is located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea just
south of Italy. This area is home to some of the world's largest and most
prestigious yachts. Malta's location is prime to draw these boats in for
annual maintenance.
Malta Dry Docks saw the need to improve the repair facilities of No.
3 Dry Dock to accommodate mega-yachts 100+ meter range. There are a limited
number of covered facilities in the area to keep up with increasing demand
for such facilities. This new covered facility will be able to house yachts
up to 150 meters.
Big Top Manufacturing was selected to cover this dry dock for four major
reasons:
- Total Protection -- the Big Top Cover allows a yacht to be covered
or uncovered in a matter of minutes. The cover is made out of a heavy-duty
vinyl product which will last many years. It provides rain, sun, and
dust protection for fine yachts undergoing repair.
- Rapid Mobility -- the cover is fabricated in 3 sections of which 2
are movable on rails. This allows the cover to be retracted when the
yacht is moved into the dry dock. After the yacht is lowered, by pumping
the water from the dry dock, the cover can be easily moved to completely
cover the yacht.
- Crane Access -- When crane access to any portion of the yacht is needed,
the cover can move in either direction. This will allow quick access
to the proper area for major equipment repairs.
- Total Solution -- Big Top provided an economical total solution to
repairing yachts under controlled conditions. The frame and cover will
be completely erected in 22 days. This minimizes downtime for the dock
as well as allows for immediate accommodations. Malta Dry Dock has recently
completed many upgrades to their facility.
